A poem for everyone I love.

The Poem: A Poem for You (And You, And You)

I want to write a poem
that makes you lunch
and folds the laundry
so you can play the piano
until dusk.

A poem
that pays off your dentist
chases away your debts
and turns your smoke into
a superfood.

A poem
that makes your dearly loved live
to that perfect old age,
when you both
gently cross over
in each other’s arms.

A poem
that removes
all aches from your body
for half a day
every day.

A poem
that makes your dad
a good man,
and your grandpa
a saint.

A poem
that gives form to those
turned to dust by tyrants,
wraps them in silk,
and calls them kings.

A poem
that solves equations
re-forests Borneo,
and makes the entire world laugh
all at the same time.

I want to write a poem
that holds a rainbow
in the sky for 10 whole minutes
just so that you
will be sure to see it
and smile.
